The Friends of Townlands Hospital (FROTH) has launched a charity fundraising appeal to raise £22K for an Electromyograph (EMG) in their 70th anniversary year to boost the neurology clinics run by consultant neurology Dr Marko Bogdanovic at Townlands.
An EMG records the electrical impulses produced by a patient's muscles and plays a crucial role in the investigation to detect conditions like carpal tunnel, nerve injuries, or muscular disorders. The results of the tests can provide immediate feedback for a report that is sent to the patient and GP.
This equipment will secure this clinic at Townlands, double its capacity and prevent services being outsourced, benefiting hundreds of patients each year.
Dr Bogdanovic told us: “This new machine will allow us to double the number of diagnostic tests we do on this site. It’s going to allow us to keep this happening close to home so that we get people diagnosed, treated as quickly as possible and as close as possible to where they live. I’ve spent the last year training a clinical physiologist to do the tests and we’re going to do them in parallel. For carpal tunnel, we can directly refer people to the hand surgeons which now have a clinic at Townlands too. This is an excellent opportunity to link, streamline and have a one stop here.”
We are pleased to be able to mark out 70th anniversary in this way. This is by far the biggest investment FROTH has made in the hospital in recent years, and we will be running a specific fundraising campaign to meet the cost. The funds raised by the 2026 Henley Herald Community Champion Awards dinner have jump started the campaign, and we would be grateful for any other donations. They can be made by clicking the Donate Now button on this website.
